Dennis Quaid stars as Jim Morris, the Texas high school baseball coach who became a big-league pitcher at age 35, in the 2002 film The Rookie. Morris was a former minor-league player who gave up baseball in 1989 for teaching and coaching, only to return to the big leagues in 1999 after scouts discovered he could still throw his fastball at 98 miles per hour.
