Apollo Biography
Famously handsome and an expert archer, Apollo was a Greek -- and, later, Roman -- god, the son of mighty Zeus and the Titan Leto. Headstrong at first, he grew to represent music, poetry, medicine and the civilized arts. He is also known as the Sun God. According to legend, Apollo drove the fiery chariot that was the sun across the sky each day. Apollo was the only one of the 12 Olympian gods to have the same name in both Greek and Roman mythology. His twin sister was the Greek goddess Artemis (known as Diana in Rome).
Extra credit:
Apollo appears in Homer's epics The Iliad and The Odyssey... His name was borrowed for the American space program that put the first man on the moon.
