Kelly Reichardt Biography

Kelly Reichardt is an independent filmmaker whose films include Meek’s Cutoff (2010), Night Moves (2013) and Certain Women (2016).

Her first feature film was 1994’s River of Grass, a low-key mystery set in Florida, where she grew up. Since then, Reichardt has steadily built a reputation as a “minimalist” filmmaker, thanks to spartan productions and serious films about internal emotional conflicts. Critics love her, and A-list actors are willing to work at low wages with her, but her loyal audience is limited.

With each film and each round of critical praise, Reichardt seems poised to break through into big-time success, and has been since 2006’s Old Joy.

Her other films include Wendy and Lucy (2008, starring Michelle Williams), Meek’s Cutoff (also starring Williams), Night Moves (starring Peter Sarsgaard and Jesse Eisenberg) and Certain Women (starring Williams again, with Kristen Stewart and Laura Dern).
