Facts about Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey Biography
Matthew McConaughey is a Hollywood leading man whose bare-chested insouciance played especially well in romantic comedies during the 2000s, then he won an Oscar for his dramatic performance in 2013’s Dallas Buyer’s Club. Matthew McConaughey was a film student at the University of Texas in Austin when he hooked up with filmmaker Richard Linklater for a memorable big-screen debut as a stoner Romeo in the 1993 comedy Dazed and Confused. He reached heartthrob status with Boys on the Side (1995, with Drew Barrymore), and by the late 1990s he was starring in big budget movies such as A Time to Kill (with Sandra Bullock) and Contact (1997, with Jodie Foster). Fairly or not, McConaughey became known more for his good looks than for his onscreen intensity, and his propensity for appearing bare-chested in public became a running pop culture joke. His credits include Steven Spielberg‘s Amistad (1997), Frailty (2001), Reign of Fire (2002, with Christian Bale), How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003, with Kate Hudson), Sahara (2005, with Penelope Cruz), Fool’s Gold (2008, again with Hudson), Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009, with Jennifer Garner), The Lincoln Lawyer (2011) and Magic Mike (2012).
Matthew McConaughey married his longtime girlfriend, Brazilian model Camila Alves, on June 9, 2012. The couple have a son, Levi (b. 2008), and a daughter Vida, (b. 2010)… Matthew McConaughey had a humorous run-in with police in 1999: he was playing bongos in the nude when police showed up at his house to investigate a noise complaint. In the end he paid a fine for creating a public disturbance… People magazine named him its ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ in 2005… His production company, J.K. Livin, is named for a line from Dazed and Confused: “You just gotta keep livin’, man, L-I-V-I-N.”
