Seth Meyers Biography

Seth Meyers is the longtime Saturday Night Live cast member who became host of the NBC talk show Late Night in 2014. Seth Meyers was a radio/TV/film major at Northwestern University’s School of Communications, from which he graduated in 1996. While at Northwestern he joined the school’s improv sketch group Mee-Ow, and after graduation he began doing comedy in Chicago. From there he jumped to Amsterdam in The Netherlands, doing comedy at a venue called Boom Chicago and later doing standup. Eventually he caught the eye of Saturday Night Live, and he joined the cast there in 2001. His onscreen persona was cool and sly, but from the start he had just as much success on the show as a writer. He was named one of the show’s head writers in 2005 (along with Tina Fey and Andrew Steele), and when Fey left the show the next year, Meyers took over her spot as a co-anchor of the show’s long-running news spoof segment, Weekend Update. He was still serving in that role in 2013 when NBC announced that he would take over from Jimmy Fallon as host of the long-running talk show Late Night. Meyers’s last show on Saturday Night Live was February 1, 2014; his first night as host of Late Night was February 24, 2014, with Vice President Joseph Biden and comedian Amy Poehler as his guests.
