Rove Steps Down
Karl Rove, the powerful political adviser who guided George W. Bush to the Texas statehouse and then to the White House, is resigning as deputy chief of staff on August 31.Rove made the surprise announcement in an interview published Monday by The Wall Street Journal. Rove, who has been active in Republican party politics since 1970, told the WSJ that "as much as I'd like to be here, I've got to do this for the sake of my family."
Rove told WSJ editorial page editor Paul Gigot in a separate interview that he's done with political consulting and will write a book.
Reuters and CNN both have quickie fact sheets on Rove. ABC News calls the resignation an amicable breakup but wonders if Rove is "dodging Congress." For the very latest, try the Rove headlines on Ask.com News.
