Deborah Kerr, 1921-2007
Actress Deborah Kerr has died at age 86. She suffered from Parkinson's Disease, according to the Associated Press.Kerr (pronounced "carr") was a huge star in the 1950s. She shared a rolling-in-the-surf makeout scene with Burt Lancaster in From Here To Eternity that remains one of Hollywood's most famous kisses. (See video below.)
Kerr also appeared with Cary Grant in the romantic weeper An Affair To Remember, whose climactic scenes at the Empire State Building were recalled in Sleepless In Seattle. And she also starred in The King And I and in the underrated Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison, with Kerr as a nun marooned on a Pacific island with a WWII Marine played by Robert Mitchum.
Here's the British Film Institute's brief take on her career.
