Barack On 'Black'
"The notion that it is of great advantage to me to be an African American named Barack Obama and pursue the presidency, I think, is not a view that has been commonly shared by the general public."Obama was responding to comments made earlier by Geraldine Ferraro, the 1980 vice-presidential candidate. Ferraro told the Torrance (CA) Daily Breeze that "if Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."
-Barack Obama on Wednesday.
While denying that she had said anything wrong, Ferraro resigned Wednesday from her unpaid position as a member of Hillary Clinton's campaign finance committee.
