A Song, A Baby, A Monty Python Reunion
Monty Python is having a 40th-anniversary reunion show tonight in New York. Their show launched on the BBC on 5 October 1969.
Last night they had a pre-union, as it were, on the Jimmy Fallon Show. Eric Idle, backed by Fallon's house band, sang "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."
Nice to see those tough guys whistle.
The NY Times has notes on tonight's reunion, with a few good quotes:
As Terry Jones, one of the six-member troupe who created and acted in the show, said recently: "Time just seems to get quicker. You look in the mirror in the morning and you think, I'm already shaving again!'"
And from a wry John Cleese:
"I thought we had flogged this horse to death -- way past death, in fact. We did it because Jones needed money. He's about to have a baby, and we felt for the guy. Anyone entering on fatherhood at age 67 needs all the help he can get."
About that baby: Jones did indeed have just a daughter. The mother is his 26-year-old Swedish girlfriend, Anna Soderstrom. They've been dating since 2005.
