Mark McGwire Comes (Nearly) Clean About Steroids

McGwire's admission comes just a few days after he failed to make it into the Hall of Fame for the fourth straight year, receiving a paltry 23.7% of the vote -- less than Bert Blyleven, Edgar Martinez, and Tim Raines.  The steroid rumors have clearly hurt his standing, and possibly McGwire hopes today's admission will clear his name with Hall of Fame voters.

Still, for all that: good for McGwire.  Admitting that he used steroids is the biggie (no matter how he frames that use) and it can't have been easy.  It helps him, and baseball fans, to be honest about it.
