Ricky Martin: "I Am a Fortunate Homosexual Man"

Give it up for Ricky Martin: when he comes out of the closet, he really comes out of the closet.

 

 

"I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man," he said today in a message on his website. "I am very blessed to be who I am."

 

You can't put it much plainer than that.

 

The Latin singer's sexuality has been a matter of speculation, or possibly more like an open secret, for at least a decade. One of the great Simpsons lines of the era was Groundskeeper Willie saying of the school's old air conditioner, "She's wasting more energy than Ricky Martin's girlfriend!"

 

 

Martin has twin sons, Matteo and Valentino, born via a surrogate mother in 2008. He said in his announcement that "The word 'happiness' takes on a new meaning for me as of today." Good for him.
