1876: When (Rutherford) Hayes Met Samuel (Tilden)
If you thought today's election shenanigans were bad, check out the messy presidential elections of 1876, when one man -- Judge David Davis of Illinois (above) -- had the chance to decide the election between Republican Rutherford B. Hayes and Democrat Samuel Tilden.
Davis passed up the chance, but even his motives weren't too pure.
