Chewbacca!
We recently profiled Peter Mayhew, the actor who appeared in the original Star Wars movies as the Wookiee good guy, Chewbacca. Yes, we should have profiled him years ago.This photo of some of the original cast members out of costume has been making the rounds lately, so we thought we'd share it along with Mayhew's profile:
That tall guy next to Harrison Ford is David Prowse (Darth Vader). The really tall guy towering over Carrie Fisher is Mayhew.
The guy Carrie Fisher is towering over is Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and the guy on the right who looks like he thinks the whole deal is sketchy is, of course, Mark Hamill.

When Harry Met Hippo
Random photo of the day: Actor Harrison Ford feeds Happy, a 5,000-pound Nile hippopotamus, at the Smithsonian National Zoo on Tuesday.
That's Ford's girlfriend Calista Flockhart and her son Liam watching the action. Liam seems skeptical.

The 'Star Wars' Audition Tapes
Blast from the distant past: Kurt Russell tries out for the part of Han Solo in Star Wars......and Robbie Benson reads for Luke Skywalker, with Harrison Ford feeding him lines.
Yow.
It's easy to imagine Russell as Han Solo -- and this was five years before he channeled his inner scoundrel as Snake Plissken in Escape From New York -- but poor Robbie seems halfway into a nap.
To be fair, that famous Lucas dialogue can't have been easy to read cold: "You can't find Organa Major?" "Look at those radiation readouts!"
We're lucky it all turned out as brilliantly as it did. For two movies, anyway.
