Nadal Ends Federer’s Wimbledon Streak

The streak is over. Roger Federer had won five straight Wimbledon championships… until today, when Rafael Nadal beat him in a five-set thriller to claim the 2008 men’s singles title.

The final tally was 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (7-5), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7. As per Wimbledon rules, the final set was a win-by-two-games affair rather than going to the usual win-by-two-points tiebreaker. How close was it overall? In the final tally, Federer won 204 total points to Nadal’s 209.

The BBC has a great blow-by-blow account of the match.
