Paula Yates Biography

Paula Yates was a TV-age celebrity in Britain, as famous for her high-profile romances and personal upheavals as for her professional talents.

Paula Yates first published a book of photographs, Rock Stars in Their Underpants, in 1978. She grew famous in the 1980s as a saucy host and presenter on TV’s The Tube and later on The Big Breakfast, where she interviewed celebrity guests in bed. She married rocker and activist Bob Geldof in 1986; the couple broke up in 1995, when Yates began dating Australian rock star Michael Hutchence.

After Hutchence’s death in 1997, Paula Yates had a series of troubles, among them a nervous breakdown and a stint in drug rehab. She died in September of 2000, and her death was officially ruled an accidental heroin overdose.

After Michael Hutchence’s death, Paula Yates also dated Riverdance star Michael Flatley… Paula Yates had three children with Geldof (Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches, and Pixie) and one with Hutchence (Heavenly Hirrani Tiger Lily). Peaches Geldof died suddenly in 2014, at age 25… Paula Yates was the daughter of British broadcaster Jess Yates, but later learned that her biological father was another popular TV presenter, Hughie Green.
