Grandpa Jones Biography

Country Musician / Comedian

Grandpa Jones was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1978 after a long career as a country entertainer. His specialty was banjo picking and folksy singing mixed with countrified humor. Jones was a regular at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, where he first performed in 1946. Beginning in 1969 he found a wider audience as a regular on the TV series Hee Haw, where his countrified act was a natural. Jones continued playing the Opry until a month before his death; his final stroke came after a performance there.

Grandpa Jones joins 2002 prodigy Norah Jones in the loop Musical Joneses.

Other country legends include Chet Atkins, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton.
