Meghann Shaughnessy

Tennis Player

Meghann Shaughnessy turned professional in 1996, and by 2001 had broken into the top 20 in world rankings. The same year she reached the fourth round at both the French Open and Wimbledon -- her best showing in Grand Slam tournaments to that time -- and won the mixed doubles title at the German Open with partner Els Callens. Shaughnessy took an unusual route to the pros, turning down U.S. Tennis Association support to pursue her own independent training program.

Extra credit: Shaughnessy is 5'11" (1.80 meters) tall and plays right-handed.

Other tennis stars include: Kim Clijsters, Daniela Hantuchova, Ashley Harkleroad and Serena Williams.
