Amelia Earhart in a scarf

A photo of Amelia Earhart, the well-known aviator, in a head-and-shoulders portrait taken in Chicago on November 23, 1928. Around her neck she wears a patterned scarf (presumably a colorful one -- hard to tell in this black and white photo). Amelia Earhart was born in 1897, so she turned 31 the year this photo was taken. She disappeared on a flight over the Pacific Ocean nine years later, in 1937.

The photographer is unknown. The photo is now part of the public collections of the U.S. Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division.
