Awkwafina Biography
Awkwafina is the stage name of Nora Lum, a New York City media personality who went from a hit YouTube video called “My Vag” to co-starring in Ocean’s 8 with Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway and Cate Blanchett.
Lum worked odd jobs during the day and made music in her off hours, and her glimpse of fame came with “My Vag” in 2013. Then she moved up to MTV’s Girl Code series, comedy shows, more cable and internet exposure. Then, movies and a TV show based on her life.
Sassy but droll, and sporting oversized spectacles, Awkwafina’s early press often focused on the fact that she is Asian American, though she is mostly a New Yorker from Queens who wants to be famous.
Before winning the part in Ocean’s 8 (2016), Awkwafina had small parts in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016, starring Rose Byrne), Dude (2018) and Storks (2016).
