Barbara Schett Biography
Austrian Barbara Schett made headlines in 2001 by defeating Venus Williams in the second round of the French Open, and by reaching the mixed doubles finals (with Joshua Eagle) at that year’s Australian Open. Schett began her pro tennis career in 1992. Her greatest success has been in doubles, where she has paired with Anna Kournikova and Anke Huber, among others. Known for her power, “Babsi” ranked 7th in 1999, a career high. In late 2004 she suffered torn ligaments in her right angle, and she retired in 2005 with three career WTA singles titles.
