Chris Evert wears sandals

Chris Evert shows off pink toenails as she walks to Super Saturday at the US Open tennis tournament. This was at Flushing Meadow Park in New York City on September 8, 2007. It's not actually fair to say that Chris Evert "shows off" her pink toenails; in truth, she's simply walking along in the footwear of her choice, which happens to expose her feet. Would we claim that John McEnroe was "showing off his unpainted toenails" in a photo where he was walking along in sandals or flip-flops? Probably not. (Although if McEnroe had pink toenails, we probably *would* mention that.) In any case, we regret the error.
