Clive Owen as King Arthur in ‘King Arthur’

Clive Owen (front right) rides with Hugh Dancy in the 2004 drama King Arthur. Clive Owen played King Arthur himself in a rethinking of the Arthurian legend, in which Arthur starts out as a Roman commander. His mother was British, though, so he ends up helping out his motherland. Guinevere was played by Keira Knightley (by the dictates of early-21st-century cinema she is a Strong Woman Character who ends up fighting and killing alongside the lads, as if that were the only form of strength available to movie characters) and Lancelot was played by the always-reliable Mads Mikkelsen, just two years away from his star turn as the bad guy Le Chiffre in Casino Royale. Hugh Dancy, who played Galahad, is better known IRL as That Lucky Man Who Married Claire Danes. Clive Owen was born in 1964, so he turned 40 the year this film was released. Looks about right!
