Mamie Eisenhower in her first inaugural gown

First Lady Mamie Eisenhower, wife of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, stands in her pink inaugural gown in 1953, the year her husband first became president. The gown, by Nettie Rosenstein, helped set off a fashion craze for pink. Mamie Eisenhower was born as Mary Geneva Doud in 1896, so she turned 57 the year this photo was taken. She was First Lady from 1953-61.
