Eleanor Roosevelt smiles with John F. Kennedy

Eleanor Roosevelt smiles as she emerges from a doorway with candidate John F. Kennedy in New York on October 11, 1960. The day was Eleanor Roosevelt's birthday: she turned 76. Kennedy was elected president less than one month later. (In this photo Kennedy appears to be holding FDR Speaks, a box set of six record albums holding the speeches of Eleanor Roosevelt's husband, the late President Franklin Roosevelt.)
