Jared Kushner married Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, in 2009, after she converted to Judaism.
His father, Charles Kushner, made his fortune in New Jersey real estate, and Jared took over the family business after his father was sent to federal prison in 2005.
A graduate of Harvard College and New York University (business and law degrees), Jared Kushner made a splash on the New York scene by buying The New York Observer newspaper in 2006, and for completing a $1.8 billion deal for a Manhattan office building in 2007.
During the 2016 presidential election, Kushner emerged as one of Donald Trump’s closest advisers, and after Trump’s victory Kushner became an influential figure in Trump’s White House transition team.
Jared Kushner was still at Harvard when his father was convicted in federal court (prosecuted by Chris Christie, a U.S. attorney at the time who would later become a rival/adviser of Trump’s). His father, Charles Kushner, was convicted of tax violations and of illegal campaign contributions, as well as for retaliation against a state witness — Charles Kushner hired a prostitute to seduce his own brother-in-law, in an effort to blackmail him and keep him from testifying.
