J.K. Rowling in a fancy gown

J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter stories, pauses for photographers as she arrives at the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation Ball. This was at Hampton Court Palace in London on June 2, 2007. The foundation was created in 2006 to raise funds for projects aimed at combating childhood leukemia and cancer; it was named for the wife of former Soviet premiere Mikhail Gorbachev, Raisa Gorbachev, who died in 1999. J.K. Rowling was born in 1965, so she turned 42 the year this photo was taken.
