John Lennon and John Kerry at a march for peace

Musician John Lennon (right, in hat) poses next to war hero and future U.S Senator John Kerry in Bryant Park, New York City, in 1972. The occasion was probably the march for peace organized by the National Peace Action Coalition, on April 22, 1972. Kerry, who had been a genuine war hero in Vietnam, winning the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts, was by then a member of the Vietnam Veterans Against The War and spoke at the rally that day. John Kerry was a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts from 1985-2013, and then U.S. Secretary of State from 2013-2017.
