Sandra Day O’Connor

Judge Samuel Alito, Jr., on day four of his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Alito was nominated by President George Bush (after the earlier nomination and withdrawal of Harriet Miers) to replace retiring Judge Sandra Day O'Connor. Alito was confirmed in January of 2006.
