Sophia Loren from ‘The Pride and the Passion’

Sophia Loren gives the camera a sultry once-over in this publicity photo for the 1957 film The Pride and the Passion. The film was a Napoleonic-era potboiler, with Loren playing the mistress of freedom fighter Frank Sinatra, who also falls for Royal Navy officer Cary Grant. (*Loren* falls for Grant, that is, not Sinatra.) At this point, Loren was already a well-known actress and was on the cusp of being THE FAMOUS SOPHIA LOREN, international sex symbol and star. This photo certainly makes a nod in that direction. Sophia Loren was born in 1934, so she turned 23 the year the film was released.
