Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher: PHOTOS

Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, fellow actors as well as daughter and mother, have died one day apart. Fisher died of a heart attack on December 27th, and the next morning Reynolds had a massive stroke (minutes after saying “that she was very, very sad about losing Carrie and that she would like to be with her again”).

Both had amazing careers that started with a bang. Debbie Reynolds was only 19 when she was cast opposite Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain, which became one of Hollywood’s most beloved musicals. Yet Carrie Fisher outdid her by starring in the megahit Star Wars in 1977, filmed when she was just 19.

Impressive stuff. They’re seen in the photo above at the Screen Actors Guild awards in 2015, when Debbie Reynolds was given a lifetime achievement award. At right is Carrie Fisher’s daughter and Reynolds’s granddaughter, Billie Lourde. Let’s look at a few other photos of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds through the years.

Awww! Here’s Debbie Reynolds with infant Carrie Fisher in 1956, the year she was born, in a classic MGM studio publicity shot.

Another great photo from 1958, with Carrie Fisher (left) at age two and Todd Fisher just a few months old. This was not long after Debbie Reynold’s husband, Eddie Fisher, left her for actress Elizabeth Taylor in what became one of the great celebrity scandals of the decade. She’s putting on a brave front for the cameras.

Heh! Matching outfits for Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher on the MGM lot in this studio publicity shot from the 1950s. You can just see the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer sign at the top of the photo.

Wow! Fast-forward to 1972. This is Debbie Reynolds in the fur with her daughter Carrie Fisher, who turned 16 that year. It’s hard to see the future Princess Leia in this shot, but she’s only five years away from becoming a huge star in that role.

Now fast-forward another 30 years. This is mother and daughter together in 2005 at the premiere of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith in Washington, DC.

Together again in 2014, at the final auction of Debbie Reynolds’s amazing collection of Hollywood memorabilia. The sale brought in $26 million.

And finally, Carrie Fisher at left in a touching embrace with Debbie Reynolds at that same Screen Actors Guild event on January 26, 2015. They were quite a Hollywood pair.
