Franklin Roosevelt in his wheelchair

President Franklin Roosevelt sits in his wheelchair aboard the yacht Nourmahal in April of 1935. Roosevelt contracted polio in 1921, and was mostly wheelchair-bound after that. The yacht was owned by Vincent Astor; per the White House Historical Association, "Roosevelt took a number of trips on the ship prior to and during his presidency until the ship was acquired by the Coast Guard in 1940, just prior to the United States joining World War II."
