Newt: Stop Quoting Me, You Lying Quoters

  • Last week, former Congressman Newt Gingrich announced he will seek the Republican nomination for the U.S. presidency in 2012:

A few days later, Gingrich earned the enmity of his own party by calling the Republican approach to medical care “social engineering” and “radical.” Democrats like the idea of a Republican candidate for president calling his own people a group of extremists.

Republicans don’t like that idea, and many of them said so to Newt.

So all week Newt has been back-pedaling and apologizing. Finally, once and for all, he told Greta Van Susteren, “Any ad which quotes what I said on Sunday is a falsehood:”

Good luck with that one, Newt!

Following the arc of his presidential campaign, Newt will announce tomorrow on Twitter that he’ll be releasing a YouTube video with the Facebook thing, in which he will say, “Any ad that uses out of context anything I said last week about ads that quote me from the previous Sunday are also lies.”

That’s to be followed a week later with, “Anyone who quotes me directly from Sunday, without referencing my comments from Tuesday — I mean LAST Tuesday — is lying.”
