Roberto Benigni is widely known as one of the most popular comics of Italian cinema, often writing, directing and starring in his own films. His 1991 comedy Johnny Stecchino was hugely successful in Italy, and Benigni became familiar to American audiences through minor roles in Down By Law and Night on Earth.
