Amelia Earhart with goggles

Amelia Earhart, pioneering aviator, is seen in this head-and-shoulders portrait taken circa 1925-30. Earhart is wearing a leather helmet with goggles and leather coat with fur collar. The heavy insulation was necessary for high altitudes in the early days of flying.

Amelia Earhart was born in 1897, so she would have been around 30 years old when this photo was taken. The photographer is not identified, but the photo is now in the collections of the U.S. Library of Congress.
