Betsy Ross

A photo of the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia.

This may be the house where Betsy Ross was living during the time that she is alleged to have created the first American flag. The tradition that Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag has never been proved.

The photo was taken by Carol M. Highsmith sometime between 1980 and 2006. It's now part of the Carol Highsmith Collection at the U.S. Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division. (LC-DIG-highsm-12314)
