Christopher Plummer in ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’

Here's Oscar-winning actor Christopher Plummer (left), looking very King Lear alongside singer and actor Tom Waits in a shot from the 2009 film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. The film was directed by Terry Gilliam, and as with so many of his films, was visually imaginative and quite brainy, but too eccentric for most viewers. The film is notable for the death of its lead actor, Heath Ledger, partway through filming. He was replaced by Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell, all playing transformed versions of his character. At this moment, Christopher Plummer was not yet an Oscar-winner; he received the best supporting actor Academy Award for his 2012 film Beginners.
