Ernest Hemingway

Agnes von Kurowsky, circa 1918. She was Ernest Hemingway's nurse as he recuperated from war wounds in Italy; he was 19, she 26. Hemingway fell in love with von Korowsky, but she later rejected him. She is regarded as the model for Catherine Barkley, the British nurse in Hemingway's 1929 novel 'A Farewell to Arms.'
