George Washington

The "Lansdowne" portrait of George Washington, so named because it was painted by Gilbert Stuart in 1796 for the first Marquis of Lansdowne, a member of the British Parliament who supported the American cause during the Revolutionary War. The painting is now in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington.
