Gillian Flynn Biography

Gillian Flynn wrote the novel and the screen adaptation of Gone Girl, the bestselling 2012 mystery thriller that became the 2014 David Fincher movie. Flynn grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and is a 1994 graduate of the University of Kansas. She studied journalism and earned her graduate degree in 1998 from Chicago’s Northwestern University, then spent the next decade writing about movies and pop culture for Entertainment Weekly in New York. In the meantime, she wrote Sharp Objects, which was published in 2006 and earned critical praise. She furthered her reputation for maintaining a sense of dread in her second novel, 2009’s Dark Places, then hit one out of the park with Gone Girl, a plot-twisted thriller about a wife’s disappearance and a husband’s role as prime suspect.
