Kelly Clarkson battles a tsunami

Kelly Clarkson pauses for a photograph at a press conference held by MTV Asia for Tsunami Aid on February 2, 2005. This was at the Metropolitan Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. This was in response to the so-called Boxing Day Tsunami, caused by a magnitude-9 earthquake centered off the coast of Sumatra. Thailand was one of the countries hit hard by the waves of the tsunami, which were said to be up to 100 feet high in places. Kelly Clarkson had won the first season of the TV show American Idol in 2002; born in 1982, she turned 23 the year this photo was taken.
