Marisa Miller questions reality in a painted-on bikini

What is the nature of reality? That was the philosophical question posed by the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue with this 2004 photo of supermodel Marisa Miller. The bikini, which *seems* to be a stylish leather top with a metal zipper, is in fact merely painted onto her naked torso in a triumph of stereopsis and trompe l'oeil. The swimsuit photos that year were accompanied by a 12,000-word essay on Existentialism by Jean-Paul Sartre, reprinted from the magazine's original swimsuit issue in 1964.
