Sir Isaac Newton looks askance

A portrait of Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) at age 70. The portrait was painted by Sir James Thornhill in 1712. Sir Isaac doesn't look delighted to be 70 -- in fact, he seems to regard the whole sitting with skepticism -- but what could he do about his age, after all? His reputation was already secure, at least, which is much more than most of us can say. Salute!
