Chad Everett Biography

Name at birth: Raymon Lee Cramton

Chad Everett became a star playing dashing young Dr. Joe Gannon on the TV medical melodrama Medical Center (1969-1976). That was the highlight of a long career in which he remained a steady, if low-key, presence on TV and occasionally on the big screen. Born Raymond Cramton, he took the stage name Chad Everett as he launched his acting career early in the 1960s. With his blue eyes and Midwestern good looks, he was often cast in roles calling for a sensible, likable presence. After his major success with Medical Center (170 episodes in all), Everett starred in the short-lived TV series Hagen (1980) and the 1978 miniseries Centennial, and made many guest appearances on shows like The Love Boat, Murder, She Wrote, Melrose Place, and Cold Case. His feature films include The Singing Nun (1966, with Debbie Reynolds), Airplane II: The Sequel (1982), The Jigsaw Murders (1989), Psycho (the 1998 Gus Van Sant version) and Mulholland Drive (2001, directed by David Lynch). His very last role was a guest appearance on the Nathan Fillion TV series Castle in 2012; Everett died later that year after a battle with lung cancer.

Extra credit

Chad Everett married the actress Shelby Grant in 1966; they remained married until her death from an aneurysm in 2011.
