Randolph Mantooth Biography

Actor

Randolph Mantooth played John Gage, a handsome paramedic with a goofy streak, on the TV series Emergency! from 1972 through 1977. Emergency followed Gage and his partner Roy Desoto (Kevin Tighe) through realistic days in the life of a firehouse ambulance crew; Mantooth, darkly handsome and pleasantly horse-faced, was the show's heartthrob. After Emergency he moved into soap operas, appearing on the soaps Loving (1987-1990 and 1993-95), General Hospital (1992-93), The City (1995-97), and As the World Turns (2004-05). Mantooth remains an icon for firefighters and paramedics thanks to his years on Emergency; in 2007 he reported making "40 speaking engagements at Fire Service and EMS Conferences" in the previous two years. He has also made many TV guest appearances on shows ranging from The Virginian and Night Gallery to Baywatch (with David Hasselhoff) and Walker, Texas Ranger (with Chuck Norris).

Extra credit: Mantooth is one-half Seminole Indian... On Emergency, Gage's sidekick Roy Desoto was played by Kevin Tighe. The show also featured Bobby Troupe as Dr. Joe Early; in real life he was the composer of the song "Route 66"... Emergency was created and produced by Jack Webb, who played Sgt. Joe Friday in the TV show Dragnet.

Mr. Mantooth is featured alongside George Clooney in our loop on Hunky TV Docs.
