Yoko Ono Biography
Yoko Ono’s family emigrated from Japan after World War II and settled in New York, where Yoko, who had studied philosophy and music, worked as a "conceptual artist" in the early 1960s. In 1966 she met John Lennon of The Beatles and they became romantically involved. They divorced their spouses and were married in March of 1969. Although the band had already been experiencing internal tensions, when The Beatles broke up Yoko was blamed by many fans, who thought her obviously strong influence over John had pulled him away from Paul, George and, to a lesser extent, Ringo. Together John and Yoko performed and recorded, and she has also released her own records, classified as experimental compositions and avant-garde rock and roll. Her records include Approximately Infinite Universe (1973), Rising (1995) and Blue Print For Sunrise (2001).
