Name at birth: Nicholas Joseph Clooney

Nick Clooney became familiar nationwide in 1994, when he began introducing films on the American Movie Classics (AMC) cable TV channel. He was already well-known in the Cincinnati area, where he has appeared in many forms: working as a radio host and a TV news anchor, hosting an early TV talk show, The Nick Clooney Show, and writing a column for the Cincinnati Post from 1989 until the paper closed in 2007. He also hosted the syndicated game show The Money Maze from 1974-75. He published the book The Movies That Changed Us in 2002. Clooney is the father of actor George Clooney and the brother of singer Rosemary Clooney.

Extra credit: Clooney married the former Nina Warren in 1959. They had two children: Ada (b. 1960) and George (b. 1961)... Nick Clooney once substituted for Dick Clark as host of American Bandstand... Clooney was inducted into the Cincinnati Journalism Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame in 2001... A Democrat, Clooney ran for Congress in Kentucky's 4th district in 2004, but was defeated by Republican Geoff Davis.
