Dane DeHaan Biography
In only a few years, actor Dane DeHaan went from small but meaty roles in independent films to playing the lead villain in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (starring Andrew Garfield). Born in Pennsylvania, he studied acting at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, earning his fine arts degree in 2008. That same year, DeHaan made his Broadway debut in David Mamet‘s American Buffalo. He won an Obie in 2010 for the off-Broadway play The Aliens, and landed a plum role in the third season of the cable series In Treatment, followed by a recurring role as a “were-panther” on TV’s True Blood. By 2012, DeHaan was on the big screen again and again, appearing in the films Chronicle (2012, co-starring Michael B. Jordan), Jack and Diane (2012), Lawless (2012, with Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy), The Place Beyond the Pines (2012, opposite Eva Mendes) and, briefly, Steven Spielberg‘s Lincoln (2012). Critics loved him and compared him to a young Leonardo DiCaprio, for both his looks and his dramatic intensity. DeHaan followed 2012 with more movies: Kill Your Darlings (2013, opposite Daniel Radcliffe), Devil’s Knot (2013, starring Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon) and Metallica Through the Never (2013).
