Chuck Barris Dead at 87; Created ‘Dating Game’ and ‘Gong Show’

Producer, creator and professional imp Chuck Barris has died of natural causes at his home in Palisades, New York. The Hollywood Reporter has a full obituary.

Barris created and hosted The Gong Show, a wacky anti-talent show that was briefly a major hit in the 1970s. He also created two iconic game shows of the 1960s, The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game.

Chuck Barris was 87 years and 291 days old when he died; he outlived Dr. Seuss by 85 days but fell 49 days short of Helen Keller.
