Our biography of Miss America 2011 is now live. The highlights: Teresa Scanlan was born in California, raised in Nebraska, and home-schooled until she was 15, when she started attending public school. She graduated from high school last May, was named Miss Nebraska in June, and now is Miss America 2011. It’s been a whirlwind year.

Gering is on the extreme west edge of Nebraska, near Scotts Bluff national monument and almost into Wyoming. She came outta nowhere.
