Prince George was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, West London, on a Monday afternoon at 4:24 pm local time; he weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces, according to Buckingham Palace. The official birth announcement from was simple: “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4:24 pm today. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.” Two days later, a spokesman said the boy had been named George Alexander Louis, and would be formally known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
Prince George is third in line to the throne of the United Kingdom, after his father and his grandfather, Prince Charles. George replaced his uncle, Prince Harry, in that position, with Harry being bumped to fourth in line to the throne.
